Who was the best Dancehall artiste for 2023?

So, I did a random search about dancehall and Reggae music in Google and this question came up “Who was the best Dancehall artiste for 2023”?


After digging a little deeper I realized that some of the names that readily came to mind and were considered to be the top artist in Jamaica was not moving numbers globally.

So, who was the best dancehall artiste for 2023? some the names that are been mention are:

• Masicka
• Valiant
• Sean Paul
• Teejay
• Popcaan
• Vybz Kartel
• Dexta Daps
• Byron Messia
• Bounty Killa
• Beenie Man
• Buju Banton

The names listed above are some of the artists who had songs on heavy rotations during the year most of the songs were chart toppers.

Some very good albums were released in 2023 such as:

• Bounty Killa’s – Time Bomb feat. Cham
• Beenie Man’s - Simma
• Masicka’s – Generation of Kings
• Idonia’s – Occupied Mind
• Buju Banton’s – Born for Greatness

2023 also gave birth to some new talents, some of which released some top-tier singles and were bangers in clubs, parties, street dances, locally and internationally.

These young artists can also be considered to be top contenders for “Who was the best Dancehall artiste for 2023”?

• Najeeriii
• Pablo YG
• 450
• Stark Ashley

Another factor we can take into consideration as we try to figure out who was the best dancehall artiste for 2023: Who really ruled the summer? Who had the top song for the summer? I brought up these two questions because almost every dancehall or Reggae artist always try to secure a summer banger because its this time of the year when most of the high-profile parties are normally held and securing a summer hit will sometimes lead to these artists getting booked.

For us here at Dancehall Reggae world, the top songs for the summer of 2023 were Teejay’s Driff, Najeeriii’s Poddle Boat and Valiant’s Mad Out.

In my opinion, I think Teejay was the best and most consistent dancehall artiste for 2023.

His song drift was a hit and even charted on the billboard charts.
