Tessanne and Chronixx nominated for Bob Marley Award
A bevy of popular Jamaican artistes will face off in competition for the Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year at the upcoming International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).
Tessanne Chin, Chronixx, Sean Paul, Jimmy Cliff and Soja are all nominated for the award.
Chin, who won season 5 of the American singing competition The Voice, also scored a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year.
Reggae star Chronixx is also in the running for three other awards Male Vocalist of the Year, Best Song for Smile Jamaica and Best Music Video for Here Comes Trouble.
Sean Paul, along with his entertainer of the year nod, is also up for Best Caribbean Entertainer and Best Crossover Song (She Makes Me Go featuring Arash).
Shaggy too scooped up three nominations for Best Song (Fight This Feeling alongside Beres Hammond), Best Album (Out of Many One Music) and Best Male Disc Jockey/Rapper.
Not to be forgotten when it comes to the magic number three, Major Lazer also earned three nominations including Producer of the Year.
QQ, Jo Mersa Marley and Romain Virgo are up for the Most Promising Entertainer category.
Mavado and Busy Signal will compete for the Best Crossover Song. Mavado for Give It All To Me (featuring Nicki Minaj) and Busy Signal for Bumaye (alongside Major Lazer). They will also be running against each other for the Best Music Video award, with Mavado’s Take It (featuring Karian Sang) against Busy’s Bumaye.
Canadian reggae fusion band, Magic! is in the running for Best Crossover Song for their song Rude.
Alkaline, Daniel Bambatta Marley and Kranium will duke it out in the Best New Entertainer.
Of course Queen B managed to score a nomination for Standing On the Sun with Mr. Vegas. Chris Brown, Pharell Williams, Snoop Dogg/Lion, Drake, Bruno Mars and Rick Ross are also nominated.
The event will take place at the Coral Spring Centre for the Arts in Florida on Saturday October 4.
