On the heels of Reggae Day, Studio One will release The Blue Coxsone Box Set, a limited edition box set of six rare 45s, including the long-lost Blue Coxsone single “Walk Don’t Run” by The Sound Dimension with “Giving Up on Love” by Trevor Clarke, on July 10.
Known by collectors as “Blue Coxsone” singles, the set was remastered from the original tapes and reproduced on the original Blue Coxsone label. Featuring rarities from Lord Creator, Zoot Simms, Joe Higgs, Winston Jarrett, The Sound Dimension, The Melodians, and other Studio One icons, the set was produced by Clement Dodd, Studio One’s founder and “Father of Jamaican Music, and supervised by world-renowned reggae expert Chris Wilson, who contributes liner notes.
A legendary Jamaican label that pioneered the reggae, ska, and dancehall crazes, Studio One sparked the careers of Bob Marley, Alton Ellis, Jackie Mittoo, and dozens of other reggae luminaries. With thousands of essential reggae classics released over its unrivaled six-decade-long history, the label also had many iconic imprints, with one of the most sought-after being singles issued on the Coxsone imprint (named after Studio One founder and “father of reggae music” Coxsone Dodd) with instantly recognizable blue labels.
Since 2016, Studio One has partnered with Yep Roc Records to reissue albums from iconic artists like The Wailers and The Skatalites, as well as new compilations from Don Drummond, Dub Specialist, and Freddie McKay. Other releases include a reissue of the rare Money Maker compilation and two broadcasts of the Studio One Radio Show.
