Sherieta is an artiste out of Jamaica with an impressive list of accomplishments. As a writer, she has written lyrics for several well-known
acts such as Etana (Warrior Love), Luciano (No Evil) and a few songs for
Jah Cure including 'Freedom' and the hit song, 'You'll Never Find'.
She has also worked with internationally renowned reggae singer, Taurus Riley as a back-up vocalist.
Just
recently, she has decided to begin her own journey in the music
industry and has already been receiving a good amount of support for her
music both locally and internationally.
She has managed to
establish successful relationships with top class producers; Dean
Fraser, Mickey Bennett, Chris Birch and Donovan Germaine which has so
far led to the release of three singles; 'Lies', 'In the name of your
Love' and 'Reggae is Life'.
Most recently, she released another single 'Come Find Me' and 'Best Friend', also produced by Donovan Germaine.
Having provided backing vocals for some of the biggest names in the local music industry, singer Sherieta is ready to sing to her own melody.
The aspiring artiste is gearing up to release a seven-track EP titled Conversations In Key this weekend, and, according to her, it will be a savoury mix of delightful music that will leave listeners craving for more.
“Thanks to my friend (fellow singer) Chevaughn, I’ve found the perfect way to describe my sound and that is exactly what you will hear coming out on this EP.
It’s ‘exotique-soul’ and it will showcase an unrestrained female energy and strength,” she said. “The songs came over a few years, some of them have been in my figurative book of lyrics for a while and they just tell stories from different experiences.
The project isn’t about bashing anyone or offering solutions, it’s about shedding some light on some of the perspectives we are not used to hearing and I think for that reason people will appreciate it and want to hear more.”
She continued: “As human beings, sometimes we get so caught up in our own view of life that we tend to forget that everybody has a different side of the story to tell, and the project wants to tell those other sides and connect with people on a higher level.”
The EP, set to be released on Friday on the Ghetto Youths International label, was written and co-produced by Sherieta herself.
Songs on the project include Conversation, One Talent, Can We Stay featuring Chevaughn, and Woman2Woman with Raquel Jones.
Aware that her unique sound may not appeal to the average Jamaican, Sherieta is hoping the local audience will give a listening ear to something new. She is confident that once they do, they will become hooked.
“Whatever I put out there now is who I am and by the end of this year, I think more people will understand me. Once they hear what I’m capable of and what I’m bringing to the table, they’ll give it a chance,” she said. “I’m not worried because there is always space for everyone in music. I don’t think any inspiration comes from nowhere and will be going nowhere. I believe it’s a matter of finding my space and I believe I will.”
