Riki is Ready, Drops New Single Venting

RIKI announces the debut of her new single “Venting,” with a video inspired by the lush surrounds of Portland, Jamaica.

Jamaican bred and Cleveland raised RICKOLETTE “RIKI” SIMMONDS, is a fast emerging young vocalist who records her own unique fusion of R&B, Alternative, Trap and New Soul. The self-described ‘soul rebel’ brings a style that is anchored in R&B but expands impressively into her own ‘new soul’ sound. 

Lyrically, she meditates on love’s euphoria, the legalization of herb and her bittersweet push-and-pull romance with her Jamaican roots. The self-taught singer’s lyrics dig deep into cultural minefields such as channeling girlpower, black consciousness and the grittier shades of love. A true artiste, not just in the musical sense, she also paints and pursues several other creative aspirations. The single is part of a series of forthcoming tracks to be released by Gee Street Records.

“Venting” is a self-reflective ballad about human perception and misperception spiced with an edgy, hard-hitting patois chat. The single is off of Salience, RIKI’s new project – a 12-track debut taking the kinds of creative risks that few pop or alternative artists are willing to take. Said RIKI, “I wrote this project over 3 years ago and we reworked and mixed it in 2016.  For people to understand me, they need to hear this work.” On “Venting,” RIKI’s rebellious spirit shines through with lyrics that reveal challenging nuances, seductive layer, and a confidence not often found in artistes her age.
 
“My sound has a very millennial edge but with an old school soul,” said RIKI. “The ‘Venting’ video is a more visual artistic representation that speaks for itself because of how bold and colorful the lyrics are,” she continued.  “It was shot in Portland, Jamaica, and I was happy to represent that side of my culture in a vibrant way. 'Venting' represents who I am as an individual and why I’m motivated and determined in my personal life.” Of her Jamaican roots, she said, “Everybody loves the culture, the music, the people, and because it’s naturally in me that makes me a bit different when I’m in America.  So I have these two unique sides to share.”
 
The “Venting” video was filmed in Portland, Jamaica, by and directed by  Savannah Baker & Phillip Price a.k.a. the Pum Pum Gyals with additional footage from “One Love” director Rick Elgood. The video takes you on a journey through lush rain forests, the famous Blue Lagoon, and the Geejam property all located within the Portland environs.

single is part of a series of forthcoming tracks to be released by Evolution
Music Group and Geejam.
