Return Of The Roots Dawtas A Women’s Movement in Reggae
Brooklyn, New York, April 16, 2012…Return Of The Roots Dawtas is an event that will honor and showcase veteran female Reggae artists.
The event will take place on, Saturday May 12th, 2012 at The Xiao Si Temple, 255 Mckibbin Street in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY 11206. Return Of The Roots Dawtas promises to be an annual event aimed at highlighting an array of women whom contributed their musical talents during the early eras of Jamaican Reggae music.
May 12th, 2012, Return Of The Roots Dawtas will be marked as the 1st annual, it will kick off in fine style as it features Reggae legends, Joy White, singer of hits: "Counting On You"," My Guy"," Dred Out Deh" and many more.
Also featured will be, Faybiene Miranda, singer of the crucial Reggae Roots tune "Prophecy" and last but not least, Claudette Lovejoy, original lead singer of The Lovejoys, with songs like: "Heavy Reggae", "Stranger"," Long Lost Love" and so much more.
These women represent a population of female Reggae artists who paved the way since the initiation of Jamaican Reggae music in the 1960's. During the earlier periods of Reggae, women were often not taken seriously by music producers, promoters or record labels and usually received very little or no pay for their work.
Today, many of the women who contributed their talents during that era are still around and idly standing by, as they watch their music being sold for hundreds and thousands of dollars in which they have no publishing rights to.
In essence, the goal of Return Of The Roots Dawtas is to locate these phenomenal women and introduce them back into the music business and display their talents to the world so they may generate income from their music, via performances and new recordings.
This Reggae gala of female energy strategically falls on Mothers Day Weekend. The doors open at 7pm with a Vegan
dinner service for those who want to experience a dinner and a show. Diners' will be musically soothed as a live Reggae band plays in the background which gives them the option to proceed to the dance floor and shake a leg or two.
As the evening progresses the mood will turn up a notch as non-dinning guests begin to arrive and female Deejay Sound Systems, Rebel Dawtas and African Violet entertain the audience. The initial performance segment backed by the band will commence at 12:30 am and there will be a 2nd show at 2:30 am where the women will take it back to the foundation and perform Rub-A-Dub style on the Sound System accompanied by renown King Crown! Special note: the dress code is ALL RED (optional.)
