Popcaan collabs with Giggs on "Times Tickin"
Dancehall deejay Popcaan has secured another collaboration with an international act.
This time he teams with London-based rapper Giggs on the track Times Tickin which is a single of the Briton's latest project Wamp 2 Dem.
Here again Popcaan finds himself in great company as Giggs' other guests include the likes of 2 Chainz, Young Thug, and Lil Duke. Times Tickin is being hailed as one of the best singles on the new album with reviews describing the track's the buzzing bassline as a being reminiscent of early rap, and noting that both artistes step up to the plate and did something entirely new with it, making for a great listen.
Giggs is primarily known as a grime artiste. Grime is a genre of music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of earlier UK electronic music styles, including UK garage and jungle and draws influence from dancehall, ragga, and hip hop.
“They say grime doesn't come from hip hop, but I think it does. Cause men are rapping in it. Spitting in it, on the beat. Know what I'm saying? But they say grime is that 140 BPM. Well there's 140 BPM rap playing. But, obviously, I don't know, they just want to say that they do grime and keep it in that. But, to me, obviously I'm a rapper, isn't it? But people say, yeah, Giggs is a sick grime artiste cause of his country. I don't know man. Cause of everyone else that's come up and made a name for themselves, they've all come from grime. Like I'm talking before I come, it's like they don't know anything else. It's like they don't even know that American hip-hop's always been around,” Giggs said in an interview.
Popcaan, whose given name is Andre Sutherland, previously teamed with Drake, the Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer on the track Controlla.
