Police say Kartel gave them info on wanted men, guns to try and secure freedom

Desperate times usually call for desperate measures and that tried and true saying apparently reigned supreme in the case of incarcerated entertainer, Vybz Kartel after a new report Sunday indicated he provided police information on wanted men in attempt to free himself from a recent murder conviction.

Highly placed police sources revealed to the Jamaica Observer that Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, recently ordered a meeting with Police Commissioner, Owen Ellington, who then assigned a member of the police high command to meet him personally. In that meeting, Kartel offered police information on wanted men in the deejay’s home base in Portmore, which led to the recovery of 17 illegal guns following further investigation.

The move, the source said, was done after Kartel realized the strength of the case and evidence against him after homicide investigators sealed up their probe into the death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, the man who Kartel and three co-accused were convicted of killing last month and subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the eligibility of parole for 35 years.

Police are also investigating the disappearance of a funeral director, Jennifer Edwards, suggesting evidence in that case pointed to Edwards being killed and her body being disposed after she had knowledge of what happened to Williams’ body following the murder.

"We believe she was killed because she was the weak link and she knew too much, but we are still investigating,” the source told the newspaper.

In addition to these revelations, police say Vybz Kartel was heavily involved with the Klansman Gang, who allegedly carried out murders on Kartel’s behalf.

"He was very influential in the Klansman gang. That gang used to carry out his killings for him until his Gaza Empire started doing the murders themselves,” the source told the Jamaica Observer.
“We have footage of him and a leading Klansman member bragging about the best places to kill people, whether in the church or other places. That Klansman was heard bragging that he shot eight people in a church already."

Furthermore, police say they have additional video footage from the day when the Williams murder occurred, with the footage showing the body of a headless man, believed to be Williams, lying on the floor after being beaten and stabbed to death at a residence in Havendale, St. Andrew.

Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kartel’s musical protégé, may have been the victim of loyalty, according to the source, pointing out that Campbell may not have known that Williams and the prosecution’s star witness, Lamar Chow were facing fatal consequences for illegal guns that went missing, enraging Kartel, as heard on several voice notes released following his sentencing.

"We have information that he was under the impression that the men would be beaten for their carelessness in the disappearance of the two guns. When he arrived, we heard he was surprised to see so many strange men, who we believe to be members of the Klansman gang, and that is why him tek weh himself,” the source said.

"We know that it is only after the voice notes were revealed that he became aware that he, too, could have been harmed over the guns. Maybe he would have acted differently if he had heard some of the things that came out in court.”

Campbell is also serving a life sentence at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre for Williams’ murder, with no eligibility for parole for 25 years. He rejected a plea deal which would have seen him serve only three years in prison for being an accessory before or after the fact to murder.
