Papito drops reggae cover of Sam Smith hit
Last season's Rising Star's competitor Garnett 'Papito' Ferguson is looking to create waves with his new reggae-pop sound.
Papito is currently working on a project which would be an exciting addition to the reggae genre. "It's a fusion of three genres, including reggae. The sound will be out soon and I know that the public will love it, just follow me on FB: www.facebook/PapitoFerguson, IG: RealPapitoMusik, Twitter: @Papito_Musik."
Listeners will hear some familiar beats as well as some not so familiar sounds in his upcoming song. "The concept behind the song is about boy likes girl with a surprising twist," he said.
According to the reggae singer, it is something to which listeners can dance.
Papito, who was one of the top 10 finalists, also shared what he has been doing. "I have been mostly in the studios working hard on my new projects. I have released a single - a reggae cover of Sam Smith's - I'm not the Only One," he said.
The cover has been getting steady rotation on a number of radio stations.
The 21-year-old who grew up in St Mary is making his name as a lover's rock reggae singer and, although he exited one of the country's biggest singing competitions, the windfall from his stint has a far-reaching impact.
As a life science major student at the University of the West Indies, however, Papito has to perform a balancing act to ensure that his grades are maintained and his musical career is progressing as planned.
"Now that it's summer, I am focusing all my attention on my music, building my craft and honing my skills. during school time, I still do my music, but I have to make sure that my grades are not falling. I only cut music when I have my exams," he said.
