OMI To Judge Jamfit Cheerleading Championship 2013

Kingston, Jamaica (July 9, 2013) - After storming the airwaves with his catchy lyrics and up-tempo rhythms to debut single “Cheerleader” in 2012, it seems appropriate that Oufah Media & Productions recording artiste OMI, would be asked to judge the 2013 Jamaica Fitness Association (JAMFIT) Cheerleading Championship Finals.
The competition, which is used to promote a healthy lifestyle, build team spirit and creativity through a sustained year-long cheerleading programme in schools, was lauded by the young star who emphasized the need to “encourage positive
competitive energy among teens in schools.”
“I have been watching the competition grow from year to year and I think the JAMFIT promoters are spot on in bringing together teams and encouraging our youths to be creative through music and dance,” said the “Cheerleader” singer who is enthralled by the vision of the competition.
“Apart from being a fun-filled event, I think programmes like this help to keep us youngsters out of trouble and committed to a cause, it also helps to strengthen positive team-building skills which will be crucial to the next phase of our lives,” he ontinued.
Omar Pasley, better known by his fans as OMI, will be featured as guest judge at the JAMFIT Cheerleading Finals to be held on Saturday, July 13 at the National Indoor Sports Center from 10am – 6pm. Along with international judges Karl Olson,
president of the International Cheer Union (ICU) and Vice President, Matt McDonough, OMI will adjudicate the Varsity Award for Best Uniformed Group in the competition.
Director for JAMFIT and the Jamaica Cheer Federation, Karelle Jones explains that, “OMI was selected as a judge in this category based on his obvious fashion sense and his themed Cheerleader single, which made a perfect fit for this year’s The fast rising music sensation was first introduced to the world through viral YouTube videos made from his infectious “Cheerleader” single.
The official video was eventually released in late 2012, along with videos for other lead singles “All Threes” and “Fireworks”. His latest single “My Old Lady” was released in May of this year as a tribute to his own mother and mothers around the world.
OMI, who is currently working to perfect tracks for his debut album and undergoing daily rehearsals for his first summer tour, says he is “proud to be a part of this year’s competition especially since the JAMFIT Cheerleading All-Star teams now have their sights set on the Olympics.”
When asked what he was looking forward to as a varsity judge? He responded with a knowing smile, “I’m looking forward to seeing the creativity in costume designs incorporated with current fashion trends and obviously the natural vibe and energy among the different groups.
