Macka Diamond & Unycorn Takes The Gospel to Dancehall with 'Praise God'
APRIL 3, 2016 || Known for hits such as ‘Never Been Touch’ and ‘Think Bout Me’ multi-talented producer and recording artiste Unycorn has return to the forefront of dancehall with an infectious gospel influenced number titled ‘Praise God’. Aptly titled, the collaborative effort featuring female entertainer Macka Diamond is produced on the Money O recording imprint and speaks out against the practice of evildoers towards the righteous.
“from you buck up inna badmind people sick them with the holy ghost… and all who don’t believe inna God them fi get red flag… go tell my enemies when the wicked them a come for you Praise God” .. These are just a few of the lines from this intriguing composition that has even members of the Christian fraternity raising a curious eyebrow but nonetheless giving their stamp of approval.
According to Macka Diamond and Unycorn the song is creating quite a buzz in the entertainment space with its positive message that has caught even the attention of members of the clergy.
“The song a gwaan good… we have been campaigning for a little over a month and everywhere it plays is pandemonium, we have gotten endorsements from several churches and followers of those institutions. We performed and played the song at a number church concerts (crusades) and the response was overwhelmingly positive… so that tells me we’re doing something right” – Macka Diamond said.
When quizzed the deejays explained that they got the inspiration for the song after observing a surfeit of unfortunate happenings in various facets of the society and figured it would be appropriate to do not just another dancehall song but something that would speak to the masses regardless of their religious or secular alignment.
Currently enjoying premium rotation at several popular weekly hotspots namely Magnum Wednesdays, Uptown Mondays, Weddy Weddy, Way Up Tuesdays and Gyalis Wednesdays among others the song has already soared beyond the shores of Jamaica impacting regions such as North America, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean with strong presence in Trinidad and the urban market of the U.S East and West Coast.
Meanwhile, a seemingly elated Unycorn says plans are already afoot for an official video adding that the single is being distributed by Hapilos 21st Digital and also available on iTunes and other digital platform.
