“Kelissa performs Anbessa World Mixtape for the first time this weekend“
This Saturday at Skyline Levels in Jacks Hill singer/songwriter Kelissa Mcdonald will be performing for the first time this year since the birth of her daughter, at the first staging of Anbessa World Sound System Session - The Jamaica Ethiopia Connection.
The Anbessa World Mixtape, a collaboration with deejay Shacia ‘Payne’ Marley, premiered via Billboard Magazine on October 31 2019 and is available for free download on streaming platforms sound cloud and YouTube and on Kelissa’s website.
The 17 track project is a compilation of original music and remixes of old reggae hits. It features samples from cultural icons Louise Bennett and Alton Ellis, while also collaborating with artistes like Kabaka Pyramid, Hempress Sativa, Keznamdi, Rapper Sa Roc, and Kelissa’s parents Chakula and Goldilocks.
Curated by Kelissa in partnership with the Ethiopian consulate - Anbessa World Sound System Sessions, promises to be an immersive & innovative experience taking patrons back to the nostalgic days of a proper sound system dance.
“I’m accustomed to the live band setups and acoustic setups for live performances over the world and then I’d also do after-parties in sound system style and it showed me I was versatile in different ways of presenting my music. That is what I want to share with fans this weekend at the Anbessa World event,” Kelissa shared
The event will also feature Kabaka Pyramid, Hempress Sativa, Roots Percussionist, Poet Meeka Nyota, drummers and many other guests. Music will be provided by the legendary King Jammys alongside Dubwise Miami’s Wrd Sound Pwr.
Kelissa will also be incorporating aspects of her Rastafari faith and her deep affinity for Ethiopia and Mama Africa with a Popup art & culture gallery; featuring Ethiopian & Jamaican relics and totems, and an experiential Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony at this weekend’s event.
Fans are invited to visit her website www.kelissamusic.com for more information on Saturdays staging of Anbessa World Sound System Sessions and also lookout for more events worldwide as there are real possibilities of touring the event soon.
