Jamaican songstress Tessanne Chin confirmed for Reggae Sumfest 2014
Jamaican songstress and reigning The Voice winner, Tessanne Chin has become the first artist named to the Reggae Sumfest 2014 lineup, with organizers on Wednesday confirming that an agreement has been for her to perform on the show.
Johnny Gourzong, head of the show's organizing team, Summerfest Productions said the agreement to add Chin to the lineup came months before she won the NBC talent show last December.
Gourzong told IRIE FM in an interview Wednesday, "We didn't wait until she won. From she entered (The Voice) and it was either the second or third week that we started to talk with her people. I kind of figured that, way way back as somebody that was going to one day, really turn this industry upside down. Her talent as a vocalist is immense and we knew that this was going to happen. Whether it was going to take five years, 10 years or 15 years, we knew that one day it was going to happen."
Chin has performed twice previously at Reggae Sumfest, in 2007 and 2012. She performed twice in Jamaica since returning home from her victorious exploits on The Voice, headlining Shaggy and Friends on Jan. 4 as well as a homecoming show in downtown Kingston this past weekend.
Gourzong later said that he expects the major acts for this year's edition of Sumfest - the 22nd - to be announced by February.
Reggae Sumfest is scheduled to take place from July 13-19 at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay.
