Jamaican Music Style - Or should we say Jamaica's Music style. There are a lot of different style/genre of music in Jamaica.
Jamaica's music has spread across the world reaching its audience through its pulsating riddims and lyrics.
The first commercial music of the island was mento , this was brought to Jamaica from Africa
From Mento, Ska, Rocksteady , Reggae dub, ragga, Roots Rock Reggae, dancehall and Raggamuffin . The most popular genres are Dance-hall and reggae music.
I have heard this question asked a number of times, "Who or What created Reggae"?. Mento ,ska and Soca the music of Trinidad and Tobago created reggae.
Jamaican music contains bit and pieces of Rhythm and Blues, Rock n Roll, Soul, African Beats and Calypso otherwise call Soca.
In the early 70s, dub reggae was developed, emphasizing drums, bass, and a heavily processed track of vocals or sound effects. This helped to influenced the birth of hip hop music.
In Jamaica, there are music for every season, in December you will hear mostly Christmas music . When it comes to celebrations, genres such as, Folk music, Jazz, Kumina and Jonkonoo comes into play.

the Legend Bob Marley.
