I-Octane won't close Sumfest 2015
Dancehall reggae sensation I-Octane won't be bringing down the curtain on Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Explosion on Thursday, July 16, like he did last year, but he is promising fans and patrons an unforgettable set.
"All my fans just come out from early because I'll be performing early this year. I decided not to close the show this year and give the legendary Lady Saw the opportunity. Lady Saw is a pioneer in the business. we grew up listening to her music, and it's a good look for the festival itself as well to have her close the show. I closed the show one year, two years, so doing it three years back to back may become monotonous to the patrons," I-Octane said.
"Sometimes you have to spice things up as promoters, and as an artiste, sometimes you have to think outside the box. My fans and patrons are going to love this performance. It will be a great show, very energetic, very fiery, so look out fi it," he added.
The summer blockbuster-themed festival is set for July 12 to July 18 in Montego Bay, St James.
I-Octane says he is grateful for every opportunity he gets to perform at Reggae Sumfest as he sees the festival as a stepping stone in any artiste's career to get international exposure.
"Sumfest is definitely the biggest reggae show on earth, and it's a reggae platform for Jamaican artistes to express themselves. There are a lot of overseas media who, year after year, take the time out to fly to Jamaica - where some a wi (artistes) nuh have nuh visa yet or some a wi (artistes) nuh get the chance fi travel yet, so we can use Sumfest to showcase our talent. People document the performances and show it to the world, which opens a lot of doors for us (artistes), so big up Johnny Gourzong," I-Octane said.
I-Octane's new dancehall album, Everything Correct, is being produced by Marcus Myrie and features Lady Saw and Buju Banton. It is scheduled to be released by the end of the summer and will be followed by his European tour, I-Octane Live, which is set for October 15 to November 10.
