International hip-hop sensation, Flo Rida has become the latest headliner to be added to this year’s Reggae Sumfest lineup as the popular American musician will feature on International Night 1 of the event, according to an announcement Wednesday.
Summerfest Productions, the organizers of Reggae Sumfest insist Flo Rida was a fitting choice for their event given his growing number of hit songs.
"Flo Rida is a great complement to this year's show, he has done very well over the past few years with a lot of internationally recognized hit,” said Johnny Gourzong. “We are really glad to have him on the show; he will be bringing the full experience to the festival, full band, dancers and everything, so it's a big, full show on International Night 1.”
Flo Rida first emerged on the music scene in 2007 with his Billboard chart-topping hit, Low (feat. T-Pain). This was the standout song on his successful debut album, Mail On Sunday, which featured collaborations with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, will. i. am, Trey Songz, Timbaland and Sean Kingston amongst others.
After releasing two more studio albums, R.O.O.T.S and Only One Flo (Part 1), the Miami-born rapper elevated his stock with his fourth album, Wild Ones, which saw him release hits such as Whistle and Good
Feeling, which featured a sample of the late Etta James’ classic, Something’s Got a Hold on Me. Whistle topped charts in 20 countries while Good Feeling peaked at number three in the U.S. while topping the charts in the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria.
Flo Rida will be making his first trip to Jamaica come Reggae Sumfest and says he is looking forward to it.
"Over the last few years, I've been everywhere - Africa, Japan, Greece, South America, Russia, the Middle East, Australia, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia; but never to Jamaica. I am excited,” he said in a statement.
