Gospel singer Sherwin Gardner to release new album
If you happen to be paying attention the country’s gospel circuit, then the name Sherwin Gardner would definitely ring a bell.
The powerful and soulful singer is taking a break from his regular dancehall, reggae and soca gospel presentations and has shifted into the realm of praise and worship as part of his newest musical project.
“My heart has always been to see people freely worship God and live a life of worship,” Gardner said.
He added that, being a worship leader since the age of 10, he is excited to return to the more exalt driven music, which he calls his first love.
In giving reason for the new musical direction, the singer says that he must be obedient to the direction that God is taking his ministry.
The music minister is presently in the studio working on his new album to be fully recorded during a live concert on April 16 at the SJPC House of Restoration Ministries.
His fans can expect a unique style – praise and worship with a Caribbean flair based on reports from his camp.
Gardner has always embraced what may be considered as non-traditional styles of gospel like dancehall, soca and reggae and says all music was created by God.
“Most of the people who are of the view that reggae and soca is not of God is because they have heard the lyrics that have perverted it for long periods of time,” he said. “In music, the same C and D chord that you play in the word is the same music you play in church.”
However, the presenter of the message and the intent behind the music is what truly makes the difference, he said.

The singer said, historically, soca, dancehall and reggae have been a part of Caribbean culture and can be used to praise God as well.
Gardner has had what some may call a charmed life, based on an account the circumstances of his “miraculous” birth.
According to the story, his mother had fallen ill and doctors feared she had cancer. While routine tests later ruled out cancer, it was later discovered that she was 20 weeks into a pregnancy of which she was unaware.
To avoid risking her life or birthing a deformed child, she was advised by medical practitioners to terminate the pregnancy. But she did not heed the warnings and she subsequently delivered a healthy baby boy, Gardner.
The singer recently released his new single “Because of You” which he says represents his testimony.
He said the response to the new song, which has thousands of views on Youtube, has been overwhelming.
“There is a good buzz and a lot of people speaking about it. A lot of American sites and promoters have already been calling to get information about it and the next step,” the gospel artist explained.
Gardner will also release a DVD during his album launch
