Zoo Rass
The young entertainer born Zuberi Shury, a Brooklyn native, traded in his dancing shoes for the microphone to pursue music full time.
With his rich Caribbean background (Guyanese/Jamaican), Zoo Rass takes great pride in honing his musical talent. Fusing traditional dancehall with other genres like pop and hip hop and catchy lyrics and melodies but still keeping his listeners engaged with authentic dancehall sound.
Mood Swings can be described as an abrupt and apparently unaccountable change of mood. For Zoo Rass, he has experienced different Mood Swings throughout his career. One day he can feel as if he's a king, the next day, he can be uncertain about the next step in his career.
Zoo Rass released his EP Mood Swings in mid-July and has been racking up streams and doing well in various markets. The four-track EP has been the#1 Album on I-Tunes in Ghana and #6 Reggae Album on iTunes in America. Thus far, he has racked up 74.4K streams worldwide and 11.4K streams in the past month.
Mood Swings Zoo Rass explains it is a narrative of various emotions he experiences throughout his career. The lead single "Oh Nah Nah" features Alhaji Currency & Hero.
The track gives us a warm-hearted feeling as listeners
will experience dancehall colliding with afrobeats as it provides a cultural and refreshing sound.
"The EP is called 'Mood Swings' as I was recording each song, it expresses how I was feeling at that moment or what I was going through at that point of my career, something I know anyone listening can relate to."
When asked about his hopes and expectations on the EP:
"I never really go into anything with expectations because that often leads to disappointments, but this isn't what I ordinarily talk about in my music. So what I hope for listeners to take away from this is the messages behind each song.“
Next Move During COVID-19
“My next move is to keep working on music and my next project set for release next year. It will be a more significant project with ten tracks (ten to acknowledge the ten years I've been making music) releasing late Spring 2021. For the rest of the year, I will release a few singles and a mini-project (EP with 6 songs) to help anticipate the project for next Spring. We also plan on releasing new visuals, merchandise, and hope to do more shows, whether live or virtual.”
