“No money at all can buy me, none of mi and mi friend dem nuh grimey, no boy can see we and bribe we, we have we owna tings.”
“Owna Tings” simply as a phrase implies that one has his/her own things. As a song it’s a lively representation of the hustle and hard work it takes to achieves one’s own. A topic both artist felt relatable to listeners while meshing perfectly with the Kheilstone riddim. “When I linked Darrio about the riddim, I already had the hook/melody ‘No money at all can buy me,” says Stylez, with Darrio remarking, “So the rest of the song just came together naturally once we reach the studio.”
Both artist, acknowledge “Owna Tings” as a solid start for their musical paths in 2014. Beginning with Stylez, a US based Dancehall artist who’s dabbled in mixture of music noted that“‘Owna Tings’ will help me reconnect to my roots, pure Dancehall! Darrio shows me some strength with this collaboration as well”. Darrio who reached a healthy popularity recently with “Gyal Siddung”(w/ Konshens) and “School Free”, is enthused about exploring his lyrical creativity, “I’m putting ME into the music. Not what I think the people want to hear, but what DARRIO feels and sees.”
While “Owna Tings” makes it’s debut today, street promotion has been heavy. Darrio and Stylez hit the US East Coast streets, endorsing “Owna Tings”, but not with just your average song preview. The duo shot footage during recent performances and interview stops as well as wearing branded #OwnaTings campaign shirts sponsored by Stylez upcoming line 6ixDiciplez.
