Dancehall Reggae artiste Bugle gets soundtrack deal - ARTISTE manager Shelly-Ann Curran recently inked a “music placement” deal with US-based D Street Pictures to place her artistes on the entity's film and television soundtracks over the next five years.
Curran, principal of John John Music Group, is manager for acts including Bugle and Devin Di Dakta.
“This deal and partnership with D Street Pictures
is truly a blessing. John John Music Group hit a high last year when
our artiste Devin Di Dakta received the Grammy nomination and then
signed with Downtown Records, a division of Interscope Records. But you
can't rest on your laurels in today's climate. You have to hustle and
create alternative ways to get your artistes out there,” said Curran.
“D
Street is producing film and television for the international market so
the exposure for my artist is priceless. It's about time Jamaican
musicians of all genres take their place on the world stage and this
opportunity helps us do just that. I look forward to a long and fruitful
relationship with D Street Media Group,” she continued.
The deal
is slated to begin with reggae singjay Bugle, who will exclusively
provide songs for the soundtrack of the upcoming Jamaican film The Mango
Girl. The film is based on the book of the same name by motivational
speaker Dr
Ava Brown.
Bugle (given name Roy Thompson) will also be the soundtrack of 2018 heist film The Blue Mauritius.
The
cast includes Anthony Mackie ( Avengers, Captain America), John
Rhys-Davies ( Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones), Oscar-nominated French
legend Gerard Depardieu ( Life of Pi), and German actor, Thomas
Kretschmann ( Central Intelligence, Hitman: Agent 47).
Dexter Davis, CEO of D Street Media Group — the production arm of D Street Pictures, said he was pleased with the deal.
“Shelly
Curran has an incredible eye for talent, after being in the business
for less than three years you can see the direction she's taking her
artists. She's a smart and creative
force in the game and understands there are more opportunities to be
had in music other than radio play and live performances. By aligning
her roster of talent with D Street's international productions, Shelly
is helping to market her artist around the world,” said Davis. “We are
extremely excited about the deal and look forward to collaborating with
Ms Curran and John John Music Group for years to come.”
D Street Media Group is an independent film and distribution company and the holding company for D Street Releasing, D Street Pictures, D Street Medienvertrieb GmbH in Berlin, DSNC Limited, London and D Street South Africa.
