Dancehall artiste DeQyd Drops New Music

Dancehall artiste DeQyd mixes no words in his latest track, titled “Dutty Gyal.” The self-produced track will officially be released on October 9, 2020.

“It’s about a girl who has been playing it dirty, ping ponging between her main lover and side lover,” the artiste explained. The song is a part of a series of releases, under the theme “Dancehall & Blues”, which focuses on the rollercoaster phases of finding and losing love nowadays.

“This song in particular focuses on the hurt and bitterness that can come from losing love by the #1 reason today, cheating. It relates on a personal level for me, as well as friends and acquaintances who have shared similar or even worse scenarios,” the artiste added.

The versatile artiste is very hands-on when it comes to the production of his work. From writing to recording to mixing and mastering, he does it all, working meticulously on his craft.

“The riddim was created in 2018 for another project that fell through and was mildly revised in 2020 to suit this song. I started writing the song back in February; I recorded it in August and completed production by early September. I work a lot so I don’t get as much time to spend my passion for music as I would like. However, I am changing that with each passing year,” he explained. He is currently working on the accompanying videos for the track.

“Music has been a
part of DeQyd’s life ever since he started playing the piano at an early age. Now, as an artiste, he has carved out a style for himself that incorporates Dancehall with Blues and R&B sounds, influenced by some of the biggest names in music such as Baby Face, Usher, Jimmy Cliff and Buju Banton.”

This will be his fourth official release, following “I Miss You Like The 90s”, “I Think So” and “Shout Out The Realest.” He has also put his own spin on a few remixed versions of popular songs (aptly called “DeQyd Refix”) such as “Wasted Energy” by Alicia Keys and Diamond Platnumz, “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran and “Chance” by Sean Kingston and Vybz Kartel.

Based on the feedback so far, this track is poised to be a hit.

“Since I released the track title, everyone has been excitedly curious since the title alone states something different from my previous releases. Only four people have heard it fully at private listening sessions and let me just say they wanted me to abuse the replay button! I also released a teaser on my social media so it’s been driving even more curiosity,” he outlined.

The artiste, who also lends his hand in designing, animation, motion graphics and poetry writing, has plenty more in store following this new release - more music, more videos, more photoshoots and notably, “Model Magazine” which is slated for release between late 2020 to early 2021.
