Copyright Is Very Serious Don't Get Caught
What is copyright?
It is the exclusive legal rights, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film or record literary, artistic, or musical material and to authorize others to do the same.
Dancehall and Reggae music artists, why waste resources recording on other people's riddims/beats?
It is a dangerous practice to us other artists property without their permission. Some dancehall artists are using some hip hop and RnB beats without the permission of the producer or owner's consent.
One of the hottest dancehall song for the month of June 2017, was Ishawna's 'Equal Rights'. Even thou it charted in Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, she could not sell it on any digital platform because she is not the owner of the beat on which it was recorded. Ed Sheeran has the rights to the beat.
The fact is Jamaicans don't buy music. So why record music which cannot pass the airport?. Be original and let others follow like back in the 1980s and 1990s.
Most of these young upcoming artists don't know their musical history. Why do you want to be like the rap artists? Don't you know that Rap Music was birth from Dancehall Music?.
There are a lot of talented artists in Jamaica who can be very creative and produce original songs/beats. They also need good guidance, proper management and producers to push their art to the next level.
