Reggae artiste Conkarah Born in Kingston, Jamaica, to a Jamaican father and British mother on January 30th, 1985, Nicholas Anson Murray was born with an unbridled passion for music
While studying abroad, Nicholas was
listening to a song by Culture entitled See Dem a Come. He was inspired
to dub himself ‘Conkarah’ because of his determination to conquer the
world through music. Since then, Conkarah has been fulfilling his
mission, spreading the positive vibes of reggae music to the world.
After successfully completing his studies at the University of West
Virginia, an opportunity he’d acquired through an athletic scholarship, he returned to Jamaica to pursue his dream of becoming a recording
artist.
Almost immediately, his immense talent was recognized, and he collaborated with legendary producer, Donovan Germain, of Penthouse Records. Together, they recorded his first single, Rude Bwoy Love, on the hugely successful Automatic riddim.
Always inquisitive, and with a taste for
adventure, he traveled to the UK to explore the other side of his
heritage. Still striving to manifest his musical dreams, Conkarah
continued to work with various European producers, notably, Drifta,
which brought the powerful song, Run Away, to fruition. England played
home to Conkarah’s first meaningful stage experience, performing with
live bands and track shows at several top venues. He continued to be
encouraged by his emerging success and was enjoying the positive
feedback from numerous venues, promoters, and the flocks of new fans.
He eventually decided to return to Jamaica once again to
reconnect with the heart and soul of reggae music. He quickly attracted
the attention of several successful producers including, Danny Browne
and Niko ‘Lifeline’ Browne. The father-son duo produced Conkarah’s
deeply moving and captivating reggae love anthem - Forever, which became
Conkarah’s official debut single. The partnership with Niko Browne also
yielded the big tune, No Barbershop, on the Rockfort Rock riddim. The
initial success of both songs led to collaborations with popular female
recording artist, Denyque, on a track entitled, Addicted, as well as
with international dancehall superstar, Mr. Vegas, on a track entitled, A
Little Love.
In 2012, Conkarah performed with a live band on
the main stage of Reggae Sumfest 2012 – an event that marked the
Festival’s 20th Anniversary and Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of
Independence – alongside international super stars, Damien ‘Junior Gong’
Marley, Chris Martin and Trey Songz.
After creating the
wildly popular song, Heavy, a dubstep-reggae fusion with UK producer,
David ‘Ezra’ Howells, and with the subsequent release of his highly
anticipated EP, “Lovabwoy/Rudebwoy” in the summer of 2013, Conkarah has
honed his craft and developed a keen understanding of the complexity and
versatility of reggae music. The product of this realization, comes in
the form of Conkarah’s new mix tape, ‘Conkarah to the World.’
With the collaboration of producers from all over the world, including,
UK, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Mexico, Indonesia, Australia, Austria,
and USA - this dynamic mix tape offers longtime fans a refreshed and
cultivated sound. Conkarah kicked-off his ‘Conkarah To The World’ Tour
in July of 2014. With performances throughout Europe, Asia, Australia
and the Pacific, and it was a huge success.
Conkarah wanted to
reach a wider audience worldwide and decided to do a reggae cover of one
of his favourite artiste’s songs – ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran.
The video went viral and to date it has over 8 million views on YouTube.
He has also successfully done covers of other songs on the Billboard
charts several of which have had over 1 million views.
Upon
returning to Jamaica, Conkarah linked up with Jeremy Harding - heavy
weight dancehall producer and former manager of dancehall superstar Sean
Paul. Jeremy was impressed by Conkarah’s talent and work ethic and
together they worked on Conkarah’s EP – ‘Don’t Kill My Love.’ After
releasing his highly-anticipated EP Conkarah linked up with DJ Olde from
one of Germany’s top sound systems - Sentinel Sound, to collaborate on a
mixtape to propel his upcoming tour.
Conkarah began his Asia
Australia Pacific Tour in October of 2015 and has performed in the
Solomon Islands alongside UK pop superstar Craig David, followed by
shows in Indonesia, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and major
cities in Australia. This tour will continue well into 2016.
