November 21, 2013. Monterey, CA. - The famed California Roots Festival 2014 will make dreams come true for reggae rock fans around the globe with its stellar line-up and festival expansion plans. The genre alone, brings and bands and fans together, where they enjoy the roots, riddims and good vibes of the reggae-rock music scene, while creating lifelong memories.
The California Roots Music and Arts Festival have accomplished much success in the genre of reggae-rock, between its rapid growth and huge crowds; making the Cali-Roots festival the largest reggae-rock festival of its kind in just four short years. The fifth annual is expected to have exponential growth, drawing crowds of more than 30,000 people. "There seems to be a cult-like following, within the industry, said festival publicist, Tanya Moore. "I haven't seen this since the days of Grateful Dead. This is hands-down, the largest known reggae-rock festival worldwide and quite an accomplishment for the promoters." California Roots Festival expanded this 2013 by bringing their festival to the West Coast for the North Carolina Sessions. The inaugural festival showcased acts as SOJA, Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds and many others, drawing a crowd of 4,500.
In 2010, the festival began with an audience of 1,700 reggae-rock fans and in 2011 had an attendance of 2,500. By the third annual, the festival grew to an astounding 12,500 people and by year four had a booming 23,500 in attendance. California Roots Music and Arts Festival is proud to be among other major festivals, as the nostalgic Monterey Jazz Festival and First City Festival, which helps to boost annual revenues for much of the local businesses in the historical oceanfront tourist-driven peninsula of Monterey.
Festival co-promoter Dan Sheehan said, "It's more than a growing genre of music, it's a movement; which incidentally has become our festival hash-tag: #itsamovement. The bands in this genre have a unique camaraderie which emulates to the fans, creating a sense of unity, a sort of unspoken bond." He adds, "You can't help but feel the vibe upon walking in. It's like no other genre I've ever seen before. There's a brotherhood and sisterhood and we are fortunate to be able
to bring that sort of kindred spirit to Monterey."
When the festival promoters announced their first set of pre-sales, which was named "Have a Little Faith," they released 1,000 tickets without ever announcing one band on the line-up; those particular tickets sold-out in a mere eight (8) hours, showcasing the craze for the industry and the faith in the promoters. There second release of tickets, "Early Bird Specials" had another 1,000 tickets released, which sold out in twenty-four (24) hours. Fans are eager, and with forty (40) bands on the line-up for the 2014-year and with more A-list artists yet to be announced, a sell-out is highly predicted.
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT OF INITIAL LINE-UP:
SOJA, ZIGGY MARLEY, IRATION, ALBOROSIE, ZION I,
PASSAFIRE, LOS RAKAS, CISCO ADLER, THE EXPANDERS,
HIRIE, KATASTRO and TATANKA
The second line-up announcement will be released on December 05, with the third and final announcement being January 08, 2014. Festival promoters Jeff Monser and Dan Sheehan promise the line-up this year to be the sickest one to date. "We are stoked with this year's line-up. It definitely called for the expansion of the fairgrounds and utilizing the main arena. We will be dressing up the main arena with sod; overhead strings lighting and hip art, with live artists both on the stage and placed around the grounds. This year it's about creating a relaxed, cool environment with great music, where festival goers can lay a blanket down and relax, or get up and dance, says Monser."
With the arena being the main stage this year, leaves last year's main stage as the second stage (located in front of the Salinas Room). Third stage will be held on the picturesque tree-lined Peyton Garden stage. Other surprises will be announced soon to make the festivalgoer's overnight stay options much more memorable, with the hopes of completing a true festival experience.
