Aidonia Shortens European Tour Due To Recent Tragedy

fter receiving a honourable mention from Billboard Magazine for his ‘Project Sweat’ EP; Surpassing the three million mark on VEVO with ‘Nuh Boring Gal’ and his Chimney Records produced single ‘Nuh Man To Me Spliff’ topping a number of charts across the diaspora, dancehall star Aidonia though elated as decided to postponed the celebrations until a later date.

Currently in Europe on a six weeks tour of that continent the deejay has also decided to truncate his sojourn and return to the island in preparation for the funeral of his close friend and camp-mate Lamar Doukie. The funeral is set for Sunday, June 5 2016.

Doukie, the official videographer of the camp died as a result of injuries he sustained in a car accident weeks earlier while accompanying the entertainer to a football match in Montego Bay, St. James. The car in which he was travelling flipped and landed in a ditch due to a blown tyre in the vicinity of Braco, Trelawny. Ricardo Dryden, another member of the camp was also seriously injured and is currently in hospital recovering.

Speaking with members of the Dutch media in Amsterdam, Aidonia explained his reason for shortening the tour,

“Touring is a very important part of my career it’s integral to brand-building and fans on this side of the world don’t get an opportunity to see me very often but while I would genuinely love to stay and complete all the shows I still have a responsibility to my friend/co-worker Peakie (Lamar Doukie), his family and my camp especially at this time when everyone has to be dealing with so much grief. We were awaiting the official autopsy report and that has been finally completed.”

Aidonia continued, “So I’ll be returning home for the funeral in the coming days. Secondly, I would like to use this opportunity to personally apologise to the rest of my European fans who won’t get to see me this time around but the circumstance is unfortunately beyond my control.”

During his four weeks stint Aidonia made stops in Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Holland and Belgium. Despite the inclement and sometimes frigid conditions associated with that continent, the ‘Hey Yo’ deejay delivered a series of energy-filled set at the various venues.

Locally, Aidonia is riding high with the singles ‘Hey Yo’ and ‘Rude Bwoy Ting’ the latter featured on the Pile Up Riddim produced by Yellow Moon Records.
