21st Hapilos Digital Distribution Gears up for Annual Awards
Pioneers in digital distribution, 21st Hapilos will be hosting the 21st Hapilos Digital Music Awards on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston. The Awards will be based on digital sales data provided by over 200 music retail outlets worldwide for music released April 1, 2016 – March 31, 2017.
21st Hapilos Digital Distribution aims to create awareness of the importance of supporting digital streaming, sales and downloads and further to acknowledge those individuals who have continued to excel in this market. The invitation only function, slated to begin at 6:30 pm will award artistes, producers, and music moguls based on their success in the digital marketplace. It will cater to roughly 250 music industry personalities and will be hosted by Vice President of Client Projects Nicole ‘Nikki Z’ Duhaney.
The very first 21st Hapilos Digital Music Awards was held in May 2011 receiving support from key industry players. Since the inception of the awards, the company has recognized and awarded artistes and producers in categories such as ‘Top Selling Singles’, ‘Top Rhythms’, ‘Top Producers’ and ‘Gospel Recognition Award’ to name a few.
While previous 21st Hapilos Digital Music Awards were based on recognizing and awarding producers and artistes for just making an impact in the digital marketplace, the show has evolved and beginning this year will take a different and more traditional approach. Based solely on sales data, views and digital trends, this year there will be a clear list of nominees from each of the 21 categories. One nominee will then emerge as the clear winner from each of these categories based on the criteria mentioned above.
Commenting on the award show, President of 21st Hapilos Kelly Dudley stated “Every major genre of music worldwide has an annual event recognizing and awarding the movers and shakers of that genre for their work. Reggae / Dancehall which has contributed so much to these different genres has always been slow to recognize its own. Hapilos Entertainment Group has taken note of this and aims to change that with the 21st Hapilos Digital Music Awards.”
